Dr. Maria Montessori

Dr. Maria Montessori (1870 - 1952), an Italian doctor, was the first woman to practice medicine in Italy. During the early days of her career, she became involved with young children in the slums of Rome. Through her continued scientific observations she determined that children are motivated to learn from within by a natural curiosity and love for knowledge.

Philosophy

Montessori education is a time tested, child-centered approach to education. It is a creative, innovative and individualized program that recognizes the natural curiosity and inherent desire of the child to learn. Children work at their own pace as they develop physically, socially, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually. All of this takes place in a naturally peaceful environment that is both nurturing and stimulating. With guidance from trained teachers, the child explores and discovers his world through his own hands-on experiences with specially designed, interactive learning materials. Montessori education empowers children to become confident, creative, critical thinkers.
